"Gizmo"
Our Silver member Sue Clinker tells us Gizmo was a commissioned study of "a rescue cat who really has fallen on her feet and is very spoilt". Not only lucky for Gizmo but lucky for us too, as we get to admire Sue's superb artistry.
Sue has captured every aspect of the cat in this pastel painting, from the texture of the fur to the dreamy, far-away look. And that simple, understated reflection grounds Gizmo perfectly. I don't think you can look at this without expecting her to get up and walk of the paper at any moment.
Visit Sue's gallery to view her other masterful images.
A very worthy Editor's Choice for this month.

Bev Lewis wins "Founders Award"
With a whoop of delight, Bev told us ' Bad Hair Day' won the 'Founders Award for Best UK Entry' in the Coloured Pencil Society's 2008 annual exhibition. Bev says...
To say I'm chuffed would be an understatement. I so nearly didn't submit it as I had thought that pet portraits had been overlooked in the past, but I am so happy I did.
So are we.... take a look at this month's Editors Choice!
Gayle Mason elected to SOFA
The selection committee for the Society of Feline Artists has approved our Gold member Gayle Mason for full membership. And even more news... Gayle has also been approached by the Snow Leopard Trust to work with them. Congratulations, Gayle!
Artwork selected by Royal Brush
Congratulations to our GOLD member Diane Wright. Diane's Piute Mountain III drawing is going to be on the cover of a Royal Brush pencil set. The Royal Brush Company produce high-quality art supply kits and are most known for their brushes. Diane also gets to have her website address and name printed on the box.
Kharon Clark on display!
Our gold member Kharon Clark excitedly told me...
"You wont believe this...Munchies has been chosen for the City of Austin 2008 Arts in Public Places and will be shown at Austin City Hall for a year. I can't believe it... oh man...this is so cool."
Well, I'm not surprised - "Munchies" was a recent Starving Artists Editors Choice.

"RIVER SLANEY from Source to Sea" by John Duffy
Our Gold member John Duffy has recently written and published a book illustrating the bridges across the River Slaney in Ireland. John follows the river from its source at Lugnaquillia, in County Wicklow, to the estuary in County Wexford, illustrating each bridge in detailed graphite pencil drawings.

While the book concentrates on the many bridges, it is full of interesting anecdotes and stories; and it helpfully gives the true meanings behind the Anglicised original place names. The final chapters give general information on such diverse subjects as Rod Fishing and The River Gods of Edward Smyth. It's a most interesting read and generously illustrated by John's accurate pencil drawings.
